How to get to the Lake Titicaca?

The Titicaca Lake, considered as the highest navigable lake in the world, is located in the Collao plateau, in the Andes mountains, at 12,500 ft asl (above sea level).

To visit the Peruvian side of theLake Titicaca, you should go to the city of Puno. If you’re planning on arriving by plane, the nearest airport is in the city of Juliaca, 30 minutes by car from Puno.

So, how to get to the Lake Titicaca?

From Lima:

By air: Lan and Avianca airlines offer direct flights to Juliaca. The flight takes 1 h 40 min.

By bus: Many bus companies, such as Cruz del Sur or Civa can take you to Puno. The journey takes 16 hours to Arequipa and 5 h 30 min from there to Puno.

From Arequipa:

By air: Lan offers one direct flight to Juliaca. The flight takes 50 min.

By bus: Many bus companies, such as Cruz del Sur can take you to Puno. The journey takes 5 h 30 min.

From Chivay – Colca Canyon

By bus: If you are going to visit the Colca Canyon, it is not necessary to go back to Arequipa to take the bus to Puno. The company 4M offers a bus from the Main Square of Chivay to Puno. The journey takes 6 hours.

From Cusco

By air: Lan offers one direct flight to Juliaca, but I think it is not worth it, as it is expensive and you will miss the beautiful landscape of the road trip. The flight takes 50 min.

Peru Ongoing Campaign

By direct bus: You can go to the Cusco bus terminal and buy a bus ticket to Puno. The journey takes 6 h 30 min.

By touristic bus: If you have time, you can take the touristic bus from Cusco to Puno. During the journey you can visit places like Andahuaylillas, Pukará and Raqchi. Bus companies Inkaexpress and Turismo Mer offer this service. The journey takes 8 hours. Check with the company if the entrance fees for the visits are included.

By train: Finally if you have time and money, you can take the better option to enjoy the espectacular landscape of the área: the train. PeruRail offers this service, that takes 10 hours.
